Anecdote.

The malik Muqbil gave a banquet for us one day in his mansion. By an amusing chance the qadi of the city , who was blind in the right eye, on taking his seat had opposite him a sharif from Baghdad with a marked resemblance to him in his features and his blindness, except for the fact that he was [799] blind in the left eye. The sharif kept looking at the qadi and laughing, and when the qadi rebuked him he replied: ‘Do not reprove me, for I am more handsome than you.’ ‘How’s that?’ asked the qadi. ‘Because you are blind in the right eye and I am blind in the left’, he replied, whereupon the governor and all those present laughed and the qadi was put to shame, but he was unable to make a rejoinder because sharifs are treated in India with the greatest veneration.
(1) : Cambay was the largest and most important port in India at the time, which was mentioned by Marco Polo in 1298 under the name (Cambaet)

عنوان النص باللغة العربية : ابن بطّوطة في ضيافة الملك مقبل في كنباية (جنوب الهند)
